Coming off the back of a very disappointing season, that saw them finish without a single trophy after a long time, Celtic would be eager to bounce back as quickly as possible. As a result, they are expected to make a number of signings over the course of the summer transfer window.

On one hand, there are a number of positions in the squad that already need strengthening. On the other hand, a number of players might be headed for the exit door this summer. As a result, do not be surprised if the club’s transfer plans pick up pace soon.

In that regard, it looks like the club might have already made a £3.2 million mistake. Jack Hendry has joined KV Oostende for a transfer fee believed to be around £1.8 million, after they took up their option to buy following a successful loan spell.

As reported by the Daily Mail, it it looks like they are open to letting him leave for a transfer fee of around £5 million this summer itself. And West Bromwich Albion are showing interest in the centre-back.

Of course, when the option to buy was included in the loan deal, Hendry was not playing regular football at Parkhead. But in hindsight, it does look like a mistake now.

Could Hendry have been a first-team star at Celtic?

The Hoops lack options at centre-back at this point of time. On top of that, Kristoffer Ajer is being linked with a summer exit, with just a year left on his current deal.

So, Christopher Jullien and Stephen Welsh would be left as the only two recognised centre-backs at the club, if Ajer was to leave. As a result, someone like Hendry could certainly have been a huge part of the squad this season, especially after the form he showed during his time in Belgium.

Now, it remains to be seen how the Hoops strengthen at the back over the course of the summer. And, they might very well need to sign more than one centre-back.
