Ange Postecoglou has arrived in Glasgow and now, you would expect Celtic’s transfer business to pick up pace. We are fast approaching the new season and the club look set to undergo a massive squad overhaul, with a number of players expected to leave and new faces to come in in order to replace them.

When it comes to new signings, one area that might very well be near the top of Postecoglou’s summer wish list is centre-back. The Hoops lack depth in the position right now. And with Kristoffer Ajer being heavily linked with a move away this summer, they could be left with Stephen Welsh and Christopher Jullien as the only recognised centre-backs at the club, with Nir Bitton capable of filling in.

Thus, it would not be surprising to see the Hoops sign a new centre-back or two this summer. And it looks like they have started to make progress in that regard.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Celtic have opened transfer talks over Mario Vuskovic. The 19-year-old currently plays for Hajduk Split and is rated at around £5 million.

Vuskovic could be a brilliant signing for Celtic

Despite his young age, Vuskovic already has a lot of experience. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has already made 44 appearances for Hajduk Split. He has also represented Croatia at multiple youth levels.

And the youngster has been impressive enough already that he has caught the attention of clubs around Europe. Torino are also believed to be interested in Vuskovic.

He is a modern day ball playing defender, who is comfortable running with the ball at this feet and is a good passer as well. The defensive side of his game is very impressive also and he looks mature beyond his years. Thus, he could fit in very well with Postecoglou’s style of football. Now, it remains to be seen whether the club can get a deal for him over the line.
