With Celtic expected to make a number of signings over the course of the summer transfer window, defenders are expected to be high on their wish list. In fact, the Hoops need to bring in signings all across the backline.

The likes of Shane Duffy, Jonjoe Kenny and Diego Laxalt have left the club with their loan spells coming to an end. And now, there is very little depth at centre-back, right-back and left-back. On top of that, Kristoffer Ajer is also being linked with a move away from Parkhead this summer with just a year left on his current deal.

Thus, one should not be surprised if the club makes transfer moves for multiple defenders over the coming months. And one player who is being linked with the club is Club Atletico Talleres’ Piero Hincapie. The 19-year-old has already represented the Ecuador national team on multiple occasions.

There is no lack of competition for his signature though. As reported by Estadio Deportivo (via Mundo Deportivo), the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, AS Roma, Newcastle United, Real Betis, Lens are some of the clubs also interested in him. Hincapie is rated at around €10 million.

Can Celtic pull off a move for Hincapie?

There is no doubt that Hincapie is one of the most-highly rated young defenders in the world right now. You just need to look at the clubs who are being linked with the player.

Thus, it goes without saying that it will be very difficult for the Hoops to get a deal for him over the line. Also, the club are being linked with Mario Vuskovic at the moment. And the two do feel like very similar sort of targets.

As a result, it looks like the Hoops are looking to bring in a highly-rated young defender this summer. And with the club’s recent record of developing centre-backs like Virgil van Dijk and Kristoffer Ajer, Parkhead should definitely be an attractive destination.
