Coming off the back of a disappointing campaign, Celtic are expected to make quite a few signings in this transfer window.

On top of that, a number of players are expected to depart Parkhead over the course of the summer. Thus, new faces are expected to arrive in order to replace them in the squad. One such player who could be heading for the exit door is Ryan Christie.

Christie’s current deal expires in January of 2022. Thus, the club might very well be open to letting him leave this summer for a small transfer fee rather than lose him as a free agent just a few months later. The Scottish international has been a regular in the first-team for quite a few years now though, as a result, if he does leave, the Hoops will need to find a replacement for him.

One man who could be a good signing in that position is Ryan Gauld. Currently playing for Portuguese side, Farense, the Scottish attacking midfielder has been brilliant in recent times. And it looks like Celtic have an eye on him, although there is significant competition for his signature. Manuel Veth tweeted out:

Gauld could be a brilliant signing for Celtic

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Gauld scored 9 goals and provided 7 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions for Farense last season. What is even more impressive is the fact that he had a hand in more than 50% of their league goals in the previous campaign as they got relegated from the Portuguese first division.

His performances have managed to catch the eyes of clubs around Europe and beyond. Thus, it will be interesting to see whether the Hoops are able to get a deal done for him.

If they manage to sign him, Gauld could prove to be a solid signing for the club. He has brilliant ability on the ball and might turn out to be competition for David Turnbull for the attacking midfield spot in the 4-2-3-1 system that Ange Postecoglou generally sets his teams up in.
