Fresh twist in Celtic’s search for director of football

It has not been long since Celtic have appointed Ange Postecoglou as the club’s new manager. And to be honest, the Hoops did move quickly to bring him in after talks had broken down with Eddie Howe following months of rumours and speculation linking him with the Parkhead job.

One more position that they need to fill and quickly is director of football. The club have been linked with several candidates for the role since as far back as last season. But an appointment is yet to be made.

Recently, rumours were starting to suggest though that the Hoops had Gordon Strachan lined up for the role. He currently serves as the technical director at Dundee.

But it looks like that might not be the case after all. As reported by The Scotsman, a club source has dismissed the speculation surrounding Strachan:

"Meanwhile, a club source has dismissed speculation Gordon Strachan could be in line for the technical director position as Celtic’s revamp their football department around new manager Ange Postecoglou."

Celtic’s search for a director of football looks set to continue

The director of football position has grown in prominence in recent years. Thus, it might be time for Celtic to bring in someone to serve the role as well if they are to continue progressing as a football club.

The fact that they have been linked with multiple names over the course of the past several months and are yet to appoint a director of football could be a cause for worry though as we quickly approach the new season.

As things stand, it looks like the club will need to undergo a massive overhaul in the upcoming few months. A number of players are expected to leave the club this summer, and a number of new faces should arrive in order to replace them in the team. Thus, it might be beneficial to bring in a director of football as quickly as possible, before they starting making these changes in the squad.
