Odsonne Edouard is expected to depart Celtic over the course of the summer transfer window. But now that it looks like a move to Leicester City could very well be off the table as the Foxes are closing in on the signing of Patson Daka, it appears possible that the Frenchman ends up staying at Parkhead for another season.

Not too long ago, it had looked like Edouard was destined to join Brendan Rodgers’ side. The Leicester City manager is well aware of the striker’s quality, having managed him during his time at Parkhead to great success.

But as we know, things change very quickly in football. And there appear to be multiple reasons why the Foxes ended up going for Daka over Edouard.

As reported by The Athletic (via Daily Record), Leicester City moved on to the RB Salzburg striker as the deal was deemed less complicated and less expensive. It is believed that Celtic have stood firm when it comes to their valuation of Edouard, who has only a year left on his current deal. Paris Saint-Germain also appear to have a 40 per cent sell-on clause in the deal, which makes things more difficult for the Hoops.

Could Edouard remain at Celtic next season?

Recent rumours have suggested that there is a possibility that Edouard could decide to remain at the club for one more season, with his contract set to run out next summer.

Of course, if he is a free agent then he will become a more attractive target for clubs who want to sign him as there won’t be a transfer fee involved in that scenario.

Multiple other clubs have been linked with the Frenchman over the course of the past few months though and it remains to be seen whether one of them will make a move for him in this summer transfer window itself.
