After a long-running saga involving Eddie Howe failed to materialise, Celtic moved quickly to appoint Ange Postecoglou as the club’s new manager. Now the focus will turn towards the transfer window and rebuilding the squad in order to challenge the Rangers for the Premiership title.

Another important aspect of the Postecoglou appointment will be his backroom staff though. It turned out to be a massive factor in the Howe talks and is believed to have been one of the major reasons why the move did not ultimately take place. The fact that John Kennedy’s future appears to be up in the air at the moment makes things even more interesting.

One man who has been heavily linked with a role in Postecoglou’s backroom team in recent weeks is Ross Aloisi. He is currently the assistant coach at Adelaide United.

Speaking to The Real Football Show and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, he said regarding the matter:

"“All I can really tell you is that I spoke to my agent, Frank Trimboli, two days ago, but that’s about it.“I know Ange reasonably well and have kept in contact with him over the years as well. But I think my focus is the task in hand and that’s a game against Sydney FC at the weekend.“Everyone wants to work with Ange. I spent a bit of time with him up in Brisbane when he first started coaching the Brisbane Roar, the first season that they won the championship.“Look, everyone wants to go to Europe and coach, but the reality is that there are obstacles that you have to cross and it’s not my main focus at the moment. Like I said, I would love, like everyone else, to go to Europe and coach, but we have a big game coming up and we want to give it our best shot.”"

Aloisi seems open to a move to Celtic

It does sound like Aloisi is open to the prospect of taking a coaching role as part of Postecoglou’s backroom staff at Parkhead. But of course, there will be certain obstacles in any move.

There are two ways to look at this matter. On one hand, Postecoglou should be given the freedom to bring in his own coaches. This is more often than not the right way to go about things and provides the manager with the best opportunity to succeed at any club.

But on the other hand, Postecoglou himself does not have a lot of experience when it comes to managing in Europe. And Celtic is certainly a huge job for any manager. Thus, the 55-year-old could certainly benefit from having people who are aware of both the club and Scottish football as part of his team.

The best way to approach this is probably to try and strike a balance somewhere in the middle.
