Ange Postecoglou’s appointment as the new Celtic manager has certainly given rise to a lot of debate in the Scottish footballing circles.

Postecoglou does not have a lot of experience managing in Europe. In fact, his only job in European football before this was with Greek side Panachaiki. Thus, some doubts have been raised whether he can make that adjustment and succeed at Parkhead.

The fact that he has not managed in Europe does not mean that he has a lack of pedigree or experience. On the contrary, Postecoglou has been a success at most places that he has been till now and done it with style as well. He has won titles at both club level and on the international stage with the Australian national team.

Paul McStay is someone who has been based in Australia for the past 11 years and as a result, he must be well aware of the manager’s qualities. As reported by the club’s official website, he said about Postecoglou:

"‘What I’ve learned in my 11 years of being here and keeping an eye on the game is that he’s a winner. Wherever he goes, he seems to have that formula and structure to his teams, and the way he plays brings success.’"

Postecoglou seemed to be delighted with McStay’s comments. While speaking with The Celtic View Podcast (via 67 Hail Hail), he said:

"“Yeah, it’s very kind of him. He’s a legend of the club. I remember him as a footballer – he was a fantastic footballer – and now he’s made a life for him in Australia.“From my perspective, people here weren’t totally aware of who I am. On that side of the world, people are well aware of what Celtic Football Club means and what the institution means.”"

Postecoglou has his work cut out for him at Celtic

Postecoglou has proven in the past that he can win things and have his side playing brilliant football at the same time. But this might very well be his toughest job till date.

Celtic are coming off the back of a disappointing campaign and must be looking to bounce back as quickly as possible. But at the same time, it looks like they will undergo a massive summer overhaul with a number of first-team stars expected to leave in the near future.

As a result, not only will Postecoglou be expected to deliver results and have his side playing beautiful football in his very first season at the club, but he will also have to do that with a team where a number of players will most probably be adjusting to life in the Scottish game themselves.
