The appointment of Ange Postecoglou ended a long running search on the part of Celtic for the club’s next manager. It is now that perhaps the more difficult task of rebuilding the squad begins.
A number of players are expected to depart Parkhead over the course of the next several months. This includes first-team stars like Kristoffer Ajer and Odsonne Edouard. As a result, the Hoops will surely need to find replacements for them. And it looks like one former star could make a Parkhead return soon.
Erik Sviatchenko was signed by Celtic in 2016 from FC Midtjylland. But he would return to the Danish club a couple of years later, first on a loan spell and then on a permanent deal. But as reported by the Daily Record, Sviatchenko is on a list of potential transfer targets for Postecoglou.
If the club do decide to make a move for him, the 29-year-old might very well end up becoming the first signing under the Australian manager.

Would Sviatchenko be a good signing for Celtic?
The Danish centre-back has been very impressive ever since returning to FC Midtjylland. In fact, he has been linked with Premier League clubs as well.
Sviatchenko has already been part of a very successful Celtic team and knows what it takes to succeed at Parkhead. Thus, bringing him back might not be a bad idea at all considering how well he has played ever since leaving the club and is the captain of FC Midtjylland now.
As a result, he won’t just bring individual quality and experience to the Hoops but leadership as well, something that they will need a lot of, if they are to return to the top of Scottish football in the near future.
Now, it remains to be seen whether the Hoops do make a move for Sviatchenko over the next few months.
