Another Australian player is being linked with a move to Parkhead to be a part of Ange Postecoglou’s extensive rebuild of the Celtic squad. With many likely departures coming over the summer, some new talent will be needed to be brought in soon. Could Aaron Mooy be one of the players to arrive?

Many players have already been linked to the Hoops because of their connection to Postecoglou from his time in Australia or Japan. Now it remains to be seen how many of them actually arrive at Parkhead over the course of the next few months.

Mooy is currently playing in China for Shanghai Port FC. As reported by The World Game, there has already been talk in Shanghai about a possible Celtic approach for the 30-year-old and the club would be unlikely to play hardball.

He has extensive experience of playing in the English Premier League, Championship and had a spell in his early days at St Mirren. He was an important part of both Brighton & Hove Albion and Huddersfield Town, and was also signed to Manchester City at one point of time, although he never made an appearance for them.

Could Mooy be a good signing for Celtic?

Signing someone like Mooy could be a shrewd move on the part of Celtic. He was playing regular football in the Premier League not too long ago.

Also, Postecoglou will also know him well from his time as the manager of the Australian national team, as Mooy was a regular in his side. And at 30 years of age, he will bring a lot of experience with him, something that the Hoops might need if they are to challenge the Rangers for the Premiership title next season.

The fact that he has played extensively in England in the past means that he should not need a lot of time to adjust to the Scottish game, especially because of having played for St Mirren for a couple of seasons in the early part of his career as well. This could be a massive positive, considering time is of the essence and the team will have to start delivering results as quickly as possible coming off the back of a rare trophyless campaign.
