Celtic will need to strengthen at the back over the course of the summer. The defence was a worry for the club last season and Kristoffer Ajer is now entering the final year of his contract and is expected to leave soon. That would leave Christopher Jullien and Stephen Welsh as the only two recognised centre-backs at the club.

Thus, signing a centre-back or two might be a priority for the Hoops this summer. And one man that they should consider is Tomas Kalas.

Kalas spent almost a decade at Chelsea but never managed to break into their first-team on a consistent basis. Many might remember his performance in the game against Liverpool though, in which Steven Gerrard slipped.

The Czech Republic international was brilliant on that day. And many had predicted that that would be the point where he would become a part of the first-team picture for the club. Unfortunately that never happened and after a number of loan spells away from Stamford Bridge, he joined Bristol City in 2019 for a club-record transfer fee. He is now the captain of the Championship side.

Kalas could be a great signing for Celtic

Kalas featured for Czech Republic against Scotland today and it is safe to say that he had a great game in the heart of their defence, almost reminding people on the international stage of how good he is.

Somebody like Kalas could be a solid signing for Celtic. While he only made a few appearances for Chelsea through the course of his time there, he has extensive experience in English football, having played for the likes of Middlesbrough, Fulham and Bristol City.

As a result, if he was to move to the Scottish Premiership, he should not have a hard time adjusting to the conditions or the style of football. And that might be exactly the type of player that the Hoops need to sign this summer.
