There is no doubt that Kieran Tierney is one of the best players in Celtic’s recent history. And the club have not managed to fill the void left behind by him when he moved to Arsenal in a £25 million transfer a couple of years ago.

The club have signed Boli Bolingoli and Greg Taylor while also bringing in Diego Laxalt on loan from AC Milan. But none of them have managed to nail down the left-back spot in the team.

On the other hand, despite having his fair share of injury issues, Tierney has managed to establish himself as one of the best players at Arsenal. And he is considered as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League right now.

Neil Lennon has claimed though that Tierney was confused about leaving the club when he did back in the summer of 2019 but believes that it was the right decision for the left-back at the end of the day. As reported by Glasgow Live, the former Celtic manager wrote in his The Times column:

"“When I had him at Celtic, Kieran was really confused about what to do in terms of leaving because the club meant so much to him.“Ambition and finances meant he made the right call for his career. For me, he’s Arsenal’s best player.”"

Celtic must find Tierney’s replacement this summer

It is understandable that Tierney would be confused about such a decision. But ultimately, he did leave for Arsenal and has found success there, winning the FA Cup and the Community Shield.

On the other hand, the Hoops are yet to properly replace him at left-back and must find a way to do that this summer. Taylor, Bolingoli and Laxalt have all had runs in the first-team, but none of them have managed to convince that they are the long-term answer there for the Hoops. In fact, Laxalt’s loan spell has already come to an end.

Thus, a new left-back must be high on Ange Postecoglou’s wish list this summer, especially if he wants to implement his attacking style of football at the club.
