Ange Postecoglou’s appointment as the Celtic manager opens up more options in the transfer market, with the club already being linked with multiple players from both Australia and Japan. His extensive knowledge from his time there will definitely be a boost to the club’s scouting information.
One Australian player though is already well known to the club and has been the subject of transfer rumours in the past. Neil Lennon was said to be interested in bringing Martin Boyle to Parkhead from Hibernian last summer.
The deal failed to materialise though and instead, Boyle extended his contract till the summer of 2023.
But once again there are rumours of Boyle leaving Hibernian, and perhaps naturally, the Postecoglou connection means that there is speculation again about the player joining the Hoops.

Celtic won’t be able to activate Boyle’s release clause
Boyle is believed to have a release clause of £500,000 in his current contract, which would be a massive bargain for a player of his quality. But there is a twist.
As reported by Edinburgh Live, the release clause in his contract only applies to clubs outside of Scotland, meaning Celtic won’t be able to activate it.
This could possibly rule the Hoops out of the race for his signature as they are in need to rebuild extensively, with many likely departures coming and voids in the squad to fill.
Of course, this doesn’t rule a move out completely, but it will have to make sense for the Hoops. Boyle could be a solid signing for the club. At 28 years of age, he will bring a lot of experience with him and he has been playing some brilliant football over the past few seasons.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 15 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions last season. And Postecoglou’s side could definitely do with a player with that kind of effectiveness.
