The Celtic squad is expected to undergo a massive overhaul over the course of the summer. The likes of Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer are in the final year of their respective contracts with the Hoops while the loan spells of Mohamed Elyounoussi, Shane Duffy, Diego Laxalt and Jonjoe Kenny have come to an end.

Scott Brown has also departed for Aberdeen to take on a player-coach role. Thus, there are lots of voids to fill in this current team in the next few months.

It goes without saying that the situation is not ideal. But then, it does give new manager Ange Postecoglou the chance to rebuild the squad in his own vision, which might help in implementing his style of football more easily.

One of the positions that the Hoops might need reinforcements in is goalkeeper. And it looks like they are weighing up a move for Mathew Ryan, a man who featured regularly between the posts for the Australian national team during Postecoglou’s spell as manager. Anthony Joseph tweeted out regarding the situation:

Ryan could be a brilliant signing for Celtic

Ryan has played for European clubs like Club Brugge, Genk, Valencia, Brighton & Hove Albion and Arsenal through the course of his career.

At this point of time though, he does not appear to be the first-choice at Brighton & Hove Albion, which is the reason why he spent the second half of the previous campaign away on loan at Arsenal. And while he might not have gotten too many chances during his stay there, he did impress whenever given the opportunity.

He is a proven keeper in the Premier League though and with just a year left on his current deal with Brighton & Hove Albion, he could be available for a bargain transfer fee. At 29 years of age, he is also in his prime as a footballer. Thus, signing someone like Ryan could be a brilliant move on the part of the Hoops. A number of other clubs appear to also be interested though and it will not be easy to bring him to Parkhead although the presence of Postecoglou could play a big factor.
