A striker might be near the top of Ange Postecoglou’s transfer wishlist as he aims to rebuild the Celtic squad over the course of the upcoming few months.

Odsonne Edouard is expected to leave the club this summer with just a year left on his current contract. On the other hand, Leigh Griffiths’ future appears to be up in the air as well, while Patryk Klimala has already completed a transfer to New York Red Bulls. As a result, there is a possibility that Albian Ajeti might be the only striker remaining at Parkhead in the not too distant future. And the Swiss international is yet to convince that he can lead the line for the Hoops.

Thus, do not be surprised to see the club sign a striker or two soon. And one man that they should consider making a move for is Reading’s Lucas Joao.

Standing at 6′ 4″, the 27-year-old will bring a physical presence to the team up front that they do not possess right now. According to stats from Transfermarkt, the Portuguese international scored 22 goals and provided 7 assists in 40 appearances for Reading across all competitions last season.

Joao can be a brilliant signing for Celtic

Joao joined Reading from Sheffield Wednesday back in 2019 for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £5 million. And his performances last season showed why the Championship side had decided to sign him.

He was easily one of the best strikers in the Championship last season and helped Reading finish in 7th, their first top 10 finish in the Championship since the 2016/17 campaign.

It is not hard to see why Joao could make his mark for the Hoops. And with his contract set to run out in the summer of 2023, there might be a possibility that they could make a move happen. But a big question would definitely be the transfer fee that Reading would look for, in case they are open to the prospect of seeing their star striker leave.
