The Celtic managerial saga has dragged on for longer than most fans would have wanted or expected. For months, it had looked like Eddie Howe was destined to be the man to get the Parkhead job. But talks eventually broke down between the club and the former Bournemouth manager.

Since then, Ange Postecoglou has emerged as the heavy favourite to become the club’s next manager. And it does look like they are closing in on making an appointment soon.

Most fans cannot be blamed for not being familiar with Postecoglou’s career though. And as a result, the club being linked with him has given rise to some debate amongst the supporters regarding the manager’s suitability to the role.

It looks like Gordon Strachan has full faith in Postecoglou though. While speaking with talkSPORT and as reported by The Scotsman, he said:

"“The fact is that Ange, who’s coming in, if you actually look at what he does and the people who have worked with him, you’re talking about a top manager here.“There’s no point in asking pundits because they’ve never watched him play, they’ve never seen his training, they’ve never seen his teams, they’ve never spoke to his players. Ask the players who have worked with a coach what he’s like, then you’ll find the truth.“I think that Celtic people are excited about this.“I’ve always said, if you ever get the chance to be Celtic manager, take it. When the crowds get back, you’re getting some of the best nights in European football. It doesn’t get any better.“I’m sure he’ll be a success. I’m excited to get somebody who’s outside the box, and not just a name that we regularly see.”"

Postecoglou might be the perfect fit for Celtic

Yes, it is undeniable that Postecoglou does not have a lot of experience when it comes to managing in Europe. In fact, the only role that he has had in European football till now was with Greek side, Panachaiki, back in 2008.

As a result, there will be an element of risk to the appointment for sure. But if Postecoglou is able to adjust to Scottish and European football, then he could prove to be the perfect appointment and a masterstroke on the part of Celtic.

There are two things you need to do in order to be considered a success at Parkhead. The first is to win titles and the second is to do it while playing exciting football. Postecoglou has done both of these things at most places he has been at till now through course of his career.

He has won titles at both club and international level. Along the way, his sides have become known for their attacking style of football. In fact, many have compared his style to that Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United. And if he can bring that to Glasgow, then we are in for a treat.
