Over the past few months, Eddie Howe was expected to become the next Celtic manager after being linked with the Parkhead job for a considerable length of time. But after it emerged that talks had broken down between the club and the former Bournemouth manager, Ange Postecoglou quickly became the heavy favourite to get the role.

Postecoglou is currently the manager of J1 League side, Yokohama F. Marinos. But he is not a household name in European football, with his only job in Europe before this coming with Greek side Panachaiki.

Naturally, him being linked with the Parkhead job has given rise to some debate amongst the fans but as more has been known about his achievements and style of football, a large portion of them have gotten warmer to the idea of seeing Postecoglou in the dugout come next season. And now, it looks like it is becoming clearer when he will arrive.

As reported by 3XY Radio (via Celts Are Here), Wednesday will be Postecoglou’s last day with Yokohama F.  Marinos and then he will head for Glasgow. It is also believed that AEK Athens had tried to sign him in the past but a move failed to materialise back then.

Could Postecoglou prove to be the perfect manager for Celtic?

Now, it goes without saying that there is an element of risk to this appointment. Postecoglou does not have much experience in Europe at all and Celtic is a huge place to start.

But that does not mean that he cannot prove to be a brilliant fit for the Hoops. Postecoglou is someone who has been successful almost everywhere that he has been at till now.

He has won league titles with various clubs over the past three decades. He also has won titles at the international stage with the Australian national team at both senior and youth levels. Thus, there is no questioning his pedigree or abilities.

If he can adjust to Scottish and European football, this could prove to be a managerial masterstroke on the part of Celtic.
