At this point of time, it does look like Ange Postecoglou is going to be the next Celtic manager. He is the current manager of J1 League side Yokohama F. Marinos but is expected to be headed for Glasgow soon.

When or if that does happen, one of the first things that he will need to do is rebuild this squad in his own vision. A number of players look set to depart Parkhead over the summer and they will need to be replaced.

One of the positions that the Hoops must strengthen in ahead of the upcoming season is goalkeeper. Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard all had runs with the first-team gloves last season but none of them convinced that they could be the long-term solution between the posts.

Mathew Ryan could prove to be that solution for the Hoops. He was a big part of Postecoglou’s Australian national team and could possibly have the same impact at Parkhead if the club can bring him in.

Celtic should make move for Ryan

Ryan currently finds himself out of the first-team picture at Brighton & Hove Albion. As a result, he spent half-a-season on loan at Arsenal in 2020/21. And while he might not have gotten too many opportunities, he was impressive whenever he was given the nod by Mikel Arteta.

Ryan is clearly a good goalkeeper. And at 29 years of age, he is in his prime at this point of time. What is more is the fact that there is only one more year left on his current deal with Brighton & Hove Albion.

As a result, the Hoops might be able to sign him for a bargain transfer fee this summer. Of course, there is the possibility that he could make a return to Arsenal. But the Gunners are being linked with a move for Andre Onana in the summer.

Thus, one would hope that the chance to work with Postecoglou again will convince him to move to Glasgow if Celtic did make an attempt to sign him.
