It’s a roller coaster ride for Celtic fans at the moment as rumours continue to swirl regarding the vacant managerial position. At this point of time though, Ange Postecoglou looks like the heavy favourite to get the Parkhead job.

The potential appointment of Postecoglou as the new manager has certainly led to some debate amongst the fans. But there has been a general warming to the idea as more becomes known about Postecoglou and his achievements elsewhere.

Similarly, there have been questions about what his coaching and support team would be. With possible delays to his arrival in Scotland, there are also concerns about his UEFA license situation. Of course, that could mean that John Kennedy continues in the interim role until things are ironed out.

That’s for future discussion though. For now, there appears to be some surprising news regarding Postecoglou’s potential backroom staff. The good news is that it looks like he will be bringing his own team of coaches along with him. But as reported by The Scotsman, he could look to bring in former Rangers star, Kevin Muscat, as part of his coaching set-up. Former Yokohama F. Marinos assistant, Arthur Papas, has been linked with a role in his backroom staff as well.

Muscat is being linked with a coaching role at Celtic

Muscat played for Rangers in the 2002-03 season, when they won the domestic treble. He and Postecoglou have worked closely at times over the years.

In fact, Postecoglou has been Muscat’s captain and his manager. And then, Muscat served as his assistant coach at Melbourne Victory before getting the managerial role when Postecoglou departed.

The two should know each other well from those times in Australia, with Muscat bringing knowledge of Scottish football and the rivalry between the two Glasgow sides. He has also served more recently as the manager of Belgian club Sint-Truidense VV.

Thus, it is not hard to see why Muscat is being linked with a role in Postecoglou’s coaching staff. Now, it remains to be seen what the future holds.
