The Celtic squad is expected to undergo a shuffle over the course of the next few months. A number of key players could end up departing Parkhead while new faces should arrive in order to replace them.

One man who has been away on loan over the past season is Maryan Shved. The Ukrainian winger failed to make his mark during his time at Parkhead and as a result, was sent out on loan to Belgian side, KV Mechelen at the start of last season.

After a rough start, he has done quite well there. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he made 24 appearances for them across all competitions, scoring 5 goals and providing 3 assists, averaging a goal contribution every 132 minutes or so.

While speaking with Tribuna and as reported by Daily Record, Shved admitted that he would like to stay and play at KV Mechelen:

"“I am pleased with the last season, because again I felt the rhythm of the game and confidence in my abilities.“I didn’t manage to adapt quickly enough to the new club Mechelen and the Belgian championship, but being here made me stronger both mentally and in terms of play.“As a result, I got a chance that I did not have at Celtic. My loan is ending and I would like to stay and play at Mechelen.“I feel the confidence of the coach and confidence in my abilities. And without trust, no footballer can play.“I will do my best to get called up to the national team again but for this you need to continue to have constant playing practice and make effective actions.”"

Shved did not get a lot of chances at Celtic

The talent has never been in question when it comes to Shved. According to stats from Transfermarkt, the season before moving to Parkhead, he had scored 15 goals and provided 4 assists in 26 appearances across all competitions for Karpaty Lviv.

Those are brilliant stats for any player. But he did not get too many chances with the Hoops, making only 3 appearances for the club.

With a new manager coming in, he might have a role to play with the Hoops though, especially because of the club’s lack of options on the right wing. At this point of time, it looks like Ange Postecoglou will be the man in the Parkhead dugout come next season. And his attacking style of football could end up suiting a player like Shved.

But if Shved wants to remain at KV Mechelen, then the Hoops should try to make a move happen because it is never great to keep hold of players who want to leave. Now, we will have to wait and see what the future holds for Shved.
