Celtic have been linked with a number of players over the past few months as it has become clear that the squad requires an overhaul if the club are to compete with the Rangers for the Premiership title next season.

With no manager at the club yet, the Hoops have not made many moves in the transfer market. But that needs to change soon with the new season approaching fast.

One player that they have been linked with for quite some time now is Joshua King. And now, Everton have confirmed on their official website that he will leave the club when his contract runs out at the end of the month.

Thus, could a move for King still be on the cards for the Hoops?

King has been linked with Celtic for quite some time now

King had a very impressive time at Bournemouth and was a regular for the side during the Cherries’ time in the Premier League. He is also a regular for the Norway national team.

One of the biggest reasons that King was heavily linked with Celtic in recent times was because Eddie Howe was the favourite to become the next manager of the club. But with it emerging that Howe will not be the man in the Parkhead dugout come next season, it is very possible that the Hoops might no longer make a move for the Norwegian striker.

Ange Postecoglou looks set to be the next manager of the Hoops and it does not feel like King would fit into the manager’s system.

While the former Bournemouth man works best as a second striker, Postecoglou mostly uses a 4-2-3-1 formation.

One more thing that is worth pointing out is the fact that while King thrived under Howe, he has never scored more than 8 goals for a club other than Bournemouth through the course of his career according to stats from Transfermarkt.

As a result, it is very possible that Celtic will cool their interest in him now that Howe is not set to take the Parkhead job.
