It is clear that Celtic need a shake up, both on and off the pitch, if they are to get back to competing for titles once again after coming off a very disappointing season, which saw them finish without a trophy after a long time.

A new manager will be on top of the club’s wishlist. And at this point of time, it looks like current Yokohama F. Marinos manager, Ange Postecoglou, is going to be the man in the Parkhead dugout come next season.

His backroom staff will be very important though. And there are few coaches that Celtic could bring in at this point of time, who would be more impressive than Shaun Maloney for such a role.

Maloney is currently part of Roberto Martinez’s coaching staff with the Belgian national team. And as reported by the Daily Record, the Hoops have already held initial discussions with him about a possible return to the club after the Euros this summer.

Bringing back Maloney could be a brilliant move on the part of Celtic

Maloney is very highly-rated for the job that he has done as part of the coaching staff of the Belgium national team. But he could be on his way out after the Euros if Martinez does end up leaving, with the Spanish manager being linked with the role at FC Barcelona.

It is believed that Martinez would want to take Maloney to FC Barcelona with him as part of his coaching team if the move does happen, but the Hoops are hoping that the emotional pull of returning to Parkhead could convince him.

Maloney came through the youth ranks at Celtic and had two separate stints at the club, which saw him make over 200 appearances combined. It is also worth pointing that he was the coach of the Hoops’ under-20 development squad before taking the Belgium national team role.
