Celtic linked with transfer move for Newcastle United player
A number of players are expected to leave Celtic over the course of the next few months while a number of new faces arrive in what is set to be a massive rebuild for the club.
There are a number of positions that the team must improve in. One of them is goalkeeper, with the Hoops not having a clear number one through the course of the previous campaign with Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard all having their runs with the first-team gloves.
That needs to change though as any team with title aspirations needs to have a commanding presence in between the sticks. And one player that the club have been linked with recently is Newcastle United’s Freddie Woodman.
As reported by Chronicle Live, Celtic and Southampton are both interested in the goalkeeper:
"Both Celtic and Southampton are in the mix for Newcastle United goalie Freddie Woodman this summer."
But Swansea City, where Woodman has spent two very successful seasons on loan, could be in the running for his signature as well:
"However, while the Swans and Woodman are keen on a possible renewal for next season, he might get the opportunity of a new challenge with Premier League and Scottish Premiership interest bubbling away."

Woodman could be a good choice on the part of Celtic
While Woodman has not had too many chances in the Newcastle United first-team yet, he has enjoyed two very successful campaigns on loan with Swansea City in the Championship. Both times, the team have made it to the play-offs but have not managed to secure promotion to the Premier League.
Individually, Woodman has had a great time with The Swans. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 95 appearances across all competitions for the club through the course of his time there, keeping 34 clean sheets in the process, an impressive 22 of which came in the recently-concluded season.
Thus, it is not hard to see why the Hoops are being linked with a move for the 24-year-old goalkeeper. But it remains to be seen whether they can bring him to Parkhead. His current contract with Newcastle United runs out in the summer of 2023.
