Ange Postecoglou has emerged as the heavy favourite to get the Celtic job over the past couple of days since it became clear that Eddie Howe was not going to be the man in the Parkhead dugout come next season.
Understandably, the fans are disappointed in the manner that the long-running Howe saga has come to an end. It was certainly not the happy ending that most fans would have been expecting or hoping for.
And although Postecoglou might not be a big name in European football, with his only job on the continent being at Greek side Panachaiki, he certainly seems to be very highly-rated for the work that he has done throughout the course of his career.
It looks that a move has been agreed but there is a holdup because the Hoops need to secure a release from his current club, Yokohama F. Marinos, who will also need to appoint a suitable replacement as they are in the middle of the J1 League season. Journalist Scott McIntyre tweeted out:
My understanding is that a deal to take Ange Postecoglou to @CelticFC has been agreed, the only holdup is securing a release from his current club & the appointment of a suitable replacement. Long overdue move for one of the world's most innovative & unrelenting coaches.

Postecoglou is a high risk appointment for Celtic but it could be worth it
The risk on the part of Celtic is clear. Postecoglou has never managed at a top European club. And nobody knows how he will make that adjustment.
That does not mean that he has not managed at a top level though. In fact, he has a lot of pedigree. Postecoglou has managed the Australian national team at the World Cup and they did hold their own in a group consisting of Chile, Netherlands and Spain. He also won the AFC Asian Cup with them. Other than that, he has won league titles with three different clubs through the course of his career.
Of course, there are two things that a manager needs to succeed at Celtic – win titles and play exciting football. Postecoglou’s sides are known for doing the latter. His style has even been compared to that of Marcelo Bielsa by many. That is an exciting thought if you are a Hoops supporter for sure.
