There is set to be a major shakeup at Celtic over the course of the next few months with a number of players expected to leave and be replaced by new faces. One of those players is Kristoffer Ajer.

The Norwegian has been one of the most consistent defenders for the club over the last few years and even this season, he was able to perform while being part of a defensive backline that was struggling throughout the course of the campaign.

Ajer looks set to leave this summer though. He has only one year left on his current deal at the moment and as a result, a move away might make sense for both the player and the club t this point of time.

About a year ago, he was being linked with clubs like AC Milan and rated at around £25 million. But it looks like the club might not get anywhere near that this summer. As reported by the print edition of the Sunday Mirror (via 67 Hail Hail), the club are close to letting him leave for Newcastle United. However, perhaps surprisingly, he could be on his way out for a £6 million transfer fee.

Could Ajer leave Celtic for a transfer fee of £6 million?

With just a year left on his contract and in the current financial climate, it was expected that the Hoops would get a transfer fee much lower than the £25 million that he was once rated at around. But even then, £6 million seems very low for a player with his pedigree, in the modern day transfer market.

Ajer is an established Norway international, who has won 9 trophies already and has experience of playing in Europe. And all of that at just the age of 23.

Ajer is a huge part of this current first-team and the club will have to find a replacement for him, when or if he leaves.
