It goes without saying that fans would have been disappointed when Eddie Howe’s move to Celtic collapsed. The former Bournemouth manager had been the favourite to get the Parkhead job for months now and it had looked like it was only a matter of time before he was appointed as the club’s new manager.
As things turned out, that won’t be happening. And the Hoops will now have to search for a manager once again. It will be even more difficult this time around though as they will have both less options and time on their hands.
Amidst all this, Ange Postecoglou has emerged as the favourite to get the role after talks broke down with Howe. And at first glance, it appears to be a confusing link to be sure. Postecoglou has managed the likes of the Australian national team, Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory and South Melbourne in the past. Currently he is managing Yokohama F. Marinos. And his only job in Europe till now has been with Greek side Panachaiki, where he was less than a year.
He appears to be very highly-rated though by those who have worked with him. Tim Cahill is one of them. Back in 2017, talking about Postecoglou, the Australian legend posted on his Instagram:
"“His leadership and beliefs are infectious and I’m proud that I had the chance to share his journey with him and witness his love for our country. The most important part was the belief he instilled in us to play a style of football that could test any team we came up against. This for me sets Ange apart as someone that stayed strong to his values of changing the game in Australia. His saying that will stay with me forever is NEVER TAKE A BACKWARDS STEP.”"

Postecoglou appears to be a good fit for Celtic
There are two things that you need more than anything to be a success as a Celtic manager. The first is the ability to win football games and trophies consistently. The second is having the side play exciting and attacking football.
Postecoglou appears to tick both those boxes. He has won titles both at club and national level, with league titles in both Australia and Japan to his name.
But even more exciting appears to be the style of football that his sides play. And it is safe to say that fans of the club would want to see some attacking football after the disappointment of the recently-concluded campaign.
