For months, it had looked like Eddie Howe was destined to be the next manager of Celtic. That long-running saga came to an end yesterday but it was not the happy ending that most fans would have been expecting or hoping for.
Talks broke down between the club and the former Bournemouth manager, and the Hoops have now been left searching for a new manager with pre-season approaching fast.
The man who has emerged as the favourite for the role over the last day or so is current Yokohama F. Marinos manager, Ange Postecoglou. It is safe to say that the rumour has emerged completely out of nowhere and most people would be forgiven for not being familiar with his career.
In the past, Postecoglou has managed the likes of the Australian national team, Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory and South Melbourne. He has only had only job in Europe till now and that was with Greek side Panachaiki. But could his appointment turn out to be a touch of brilliance?

Why Postecoglou could be the perfect fit for Celtic
When it comes to the managers who have been linked with the Hoops over the past several months, Postecoglou might very well be the one who is known the least to European football fans. But that does not mean that he has not had success.
In fact, Postecoglou has been successful most places he has been. He has won titles at both club and international level. And those who have worked with him appear to rate him very highly.
Of course, the big risk with the potential appointment would be that Postecoglou has not managed at a top European club yet. But he has managed at a World Cup though, and his Australian side held their own in a group that consisted of Spain, Netherlands and Chile.
What is most exciting about this appointment though is the attacking style of football that has become synonymous with Postecoglou over the years. Many have compared it with the style of football that Leeds United play under Marcelo Bielsa. Impressively, the 55-year-old has managed to win trophies on a consistent basis while using that all-action style of football. And that is something that he will have to do, if he ends up at Parkhead.
