The Eddie Howe to Celtic saga is finally over. And it is not the happy ending that most fans would have expected or wanted.

The former Bournemouth manager had been the favourite for the Parkhead job for months now and it was believed that it was only a matter of time before the appointment would be completed. But now, the move has collapsed.

The backroom staff appears to be the major reason behind the move collapsing at this late stage as it is believed that personal terms had been agreed with Howe for a while. But the club’s recruitment plans might not have impressed him either.

Where do Celtic go from here?

It will certainly be a huge disappointment to the club, seeing the Howe move collapse. Clearly, he was their first choice for the role which is the reason why the saga had dragged on for so long.

But now, it is clear that it won’t be happening and the club must turn their focus towards other candidates as quickly as possible.

Of course, things will be more difficult for the Hoops now considering the fact that a number of the managers that they had been linked with in the past have now taken on other jobs. Thus, options will be more limited and they do not have a lot of time on their hands either with pre-season coming up soon and the UEFA Champions League qualifiers approaching as well.

This will be one of the most important appointments in the club’s recent history with them facing a major overhaul of the squad in the summer and the Rangers sitting at the top of the Premiership as well. So, it will be very important that they bring in the right man for the job. Otherwise, next season could turn out to be just as disappointing as this one.
