After the news that talks with Eddie Howe to be the Celtic manager have ended, there is even more urgency to bring in a new manager. For many weeks now, it had looked like the former Bournemouth manager would be the man in the Parkhead dugout come next season but now, it is clear that that won’t be the case.
It’s been a long time since Neil Lennon was replaced on an interim basis by John Kennedy. And despite the club statement trying to be positive about the situation, they are expected to be disappointed with the Howe news too.
After Lennon’s departure, it was not just Howe who was being linked with a move to Parkhead. Names like Roy Keane, Frank Lampard and Enzo Maresca appeared to be very much in the running as well. Some names have faded away since then, while others like Maresca have taken on other jobs.
It was just yesterday that it was announced that Maresca will be the new head coach of Italian side, Parma, who will be playing in the Serie B next season.

Maresca won’t be the next Celtic manager either
Maresca was at times seen as a possible dream team for the Hoops alongside Fergal Harkin arriving as the new Director of Football. Maresca had been the head coach of Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad recently and is very highly-rated.
He joined Manchester City last summer and had a successful season with his side winning the Premier League 2 title and some of his players breaking through into the first-team squad under Pep Guardiola as well.
Manchester City have issued a statement with the news that Maresca is moving on to take up a challenge as manager of Italian Serie B side Parma. They have only just been relegated from the Serie A, so he’ll have his work cut out there.
One just has to wonder if he would have been in the running for the Celtic job if the Howe move had collapsed a week or so earlier.
