Ali McCann has emerged as one of the best players in the Premiership right now, who is not playing for either Celtic or the Rangers.
It is safe to say that St Johnstone have enjoyed an incredible campaign, winning the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup double. And McCann played a huge role in those triumphs.
Thus, it should not come as a surprise that he has been linked with a move away. And Celtic are believed to be one of the clubs who are interested in signing the midfielder, as they face a massive rebuild over the course of the summer and appear to be on the verge of a new era.
St Johnstone appear to be looking for a club record transfer fee though in order to let McCann leave. It is worth pointing out that their current record stands at £1.75 million, which they received for the transfer of Callum Davidson to Blackburn Rovers back in 1998. As reported by BBC, chairman Steve Brown said:
"“If Ali is going to go, it will be north of that figure.“There’s been interest – Ali in particular, a Northern Ireland international. If the right offer comes along and a player wants to leave, which is another thing you have to take into consideration, then we will sell, but it will be at a price we are happy with.”"

McCann could be a brilliant signing for Celtic
McCann is a player who can win the ball in midfield and is equally adept at carrying the ball up the pitch in order to start attacks. Of course, he is not the finished article yet but at 21 years of age, he is not expected to be.
McCann has already shown that he is capable of getting it done on the big occasion, as seen through the course of St Johnstone’s Cup double and that will surely make him an even more attractive option for a club like Celtic, where you are expected to compete for trophies each and every season.
A figure around £1.75 million or a little over that is not too steep in the modern day transfer market, especially for a player with the potential of McCann and you have to feel that if the Hoops really want him, then it would not be a surprise to see him playing at Parkhead next season.
