As Celtic continue the search for their next manager, what does the future hold for John Kennedy?

Kennedy was a very promising defender during his time as a player but only made a handful of appearances in his decade-long Hoops playing career and his injury issues ultimately forced him into retirement at the age of 26.

Since then, Kennedy has had multiple roles with the club and has now seen it all amidst his triumphs alongside Ronny Deila, Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon.

Following the resignation of Lennon in February, he took over as the interim manager. And there was a feeling that he could get the job on a permanent basis if he was able to guide them to a strong finish to the campaign. But that did not happen.

What does the future hold for John Kennedy after Celtic interim role?

He was in charge for 10 matches, overseeing four wins, four draws and a pair of losses as the Hoops finished the season without a trophy. Both losses came at the hands of the Rangers, including a Scottish Cup fourth round exit at Ibrox in April.

When Kennedy was named as the interim manager, it was perhaps about more of the same rather than changing things up. The results showed that as well since Celtic had only a 40% win percentage under Kennedy.

When speaking with The Press and Journal, former Ross County goalkeeper Michael Fraser said that he would like to see Kennedy take over the vacant seat for the club:

"“Personally, I think John Kennedy, should he leave Celtic, would be a really good shout.“He is highly thought of and it would be a good job for him to start off with. I am pretty sure a guy like John would like this job.“As soon as he looks around the stadium and training ground, that would be a big selling point for a manager. He would have the tools to work with and that will be a big draw.“He’s just a name that leapt out at me. Roy might be looking at a more experienced manager, but going left-field John would be good pick.”"

Perhaps it would be a job that is more suited for him if he does want to be a manager moving forward. Ross County avoided relegation this season but will need a new manager. It won’t be an easy job, but it would certainly be rewarding if he manages to build something good with them.
