Celtic are expected to undergo a massive overhaul over the course of the next few months as the club aim to return to the top of Scottish football as soon as possible. Thus, a number of players look set to depart this summer and will be replaced by new faces.

One area on the pitch that will be a cause of concern for the Hoops will be left-back. The club have not managed to fill the void left behind by Kieran Tierney’s move to Arsenal.

The duo of Boli Bolingoli and Greg Taylor was signed that summer but neither managed to make the left-back spot their own. Then, Diego Laxalt was brought in on loan from AC Milan in the previous summer transfer window but after a bright start to life at Parkhead, he faded away as well. As a result, the Hoops’ search for a left-back looks set to continue.

Could Paris Saint-Germain’s Mitchel Bakker be the solution to their problems? The Dutch left-back has not featured much in recent times. And judging from his comments as reported by Voetbal International (via 67 Hail Hail), it looks like he could be considering a move away in search of playing time:

"“We’re going to have a look this summer. When will the market open? In June? There are already some clubs that have shown interest. I just want to play every week.”"

Bakker has been linked with Celtic in the past

Bakker was heavily linked with a loan move to Celtic in the previous summer transfer window. A move failed to materialise though and he ended up staying with Paris Saint-Germain, while the Hoops ended up moving for Laxalt.

But it looks like Bakker could very well be available this summer and if that is the case, could a move make sense for both parties involved?

On paper, it appears to do so. While Bakker might not be a regular at the moment, even then he has made 40 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants across all competitions according to stats from Transfermarkt. And he could very well make an impact at Parkhead if the club managed to sign him.

On the other hand, Celtic do not appear to have a regular starting left-back in their team at the moment and thus, Bakker is expected to get a lot of playing time if he did end up signing for the club.

Of course, it remains to be seen what kind of a move Paris Saint-Germain are looking to make for Bakker if they did end up letting him leave this summer.
