It is safe to say that the Eddie Howe to Celtic saga has dragged on for a long time now. Perhaps longer than most people would have expected and most fans would have liked.

For the past month or so, he has remained the favourite to be the next manager of the club. But till now, an appointment is yet to be made. As we all know, things can change very quickly in football and as a result, it is perhaps natural to be a bit nervous about the situation.

However, the feeling has been that it is only a matter of time before Howe is handed the Parkhead job. It is believed that he wants a number of people from Bournemouth to be part of his backroom staff at the club, which has been a major reason behind the delay and things are relaxed about the situation behind the scenes.

But now, it looks like that might not be the case after all. While speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast and as reported by HITC, Ian McGarry provided a worrying update on the long-running saga:

"“We understand that their pursuit of Eddie Howe is becoming a source of great frustration for Eddie Howe and the incoming chief executive Dominic McKay, and Duncan it’s not surprising that they should look for a plan B, given that Howe has had more than three meetings with Celtic about replacing Neil Lennon, and he’s yet to commit. He could have signed a pre-contract, which he hasn’t done.“Celtic’s executives are becoming very impatient now with regards to what Howe’s intentions are. We’ve reported that Howe would prefer to stay in England and he’s hopeful that the Crystal Palace job will be his.”"

Could the Howe to Celtic move fall apart at the last moment?

There have been many reports in the media regarding the situation over the past month or so, many of which have suggested that Howe will be the man in the Parkhead dugout come next season. But could it fall apart at the last moment?

Crystal Palace will need a new manager next season with Roy Hodgson set to depart and Howe has been linked with that job in the recent past.

Only the future will tell what lies ahead but if there is any doubt regarding Howe being the next manager at this point of time, then the Hoops must have a plan B ready with the worst case scenario in mind.
