Celtic scouts are believed to be looking over a number of potential signings with the club needing a massive summer overhaul and they could very well be on to a real winner with one of those prospects.

As we know it’s going to take quite some turnaround at Parkhead given the way the last season went. Rebuilding the team is going to need a good mix of experience and of young players with the ability to make their mark on the first-team immediately.

John Kennedy appeared to admit recently that the Hoops have Ali McCann, one of the best young talents in Scottish football, on their radar.

McCann is someone who has made quite the impression this season and looks like one for the future. And as reported by The Scottish Sun, Kennedy said he is someone that the club knows well:

"“I think watching him from afar, he’s an impressive young player who has improved with the exposure of first-team football.“One thing for Celtic is, we always have to keep our eye on the best young talents in Scotland, that’s the first point.“In terms of where you would want to scout, if there’s good young players in Scotland, then you want to make sure you know about them.“He’s obviously one we know well of. There’s no decision over squads or anything but he’s certainly a good, talented young player.“It’s good for Scottish football having a player like that coming through.”"

Is McCann the man for Celtic?

McCann has definitely shone in a very successful St Johnstone team this season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 43 appearances across all competitions with a couple of goals and assists each to his name. He also made his debut for the Northern Ireland national team last November and has already made 4 appearances for them.

He is still relatively young at 21 years of age, but McCann may well fit the bill for the kind of player the Hoops will be looking to sign under a new manager.

And after the weekend’s Scottish Cup final win and St Johnstone’s earlier League Cup victory, McCann is already a double winner. That’s also the sort of experience that the Hoops will like. The Scotsman heaped praise on the youngster after the recent Scottish Cup victory over Hibernian:

"St Johnstone will be inundated with offers for this classy little midfielder, who barely wasted a pass and was tenacious when sleeves needed rolled up."

McCann is a ball winner who can play up and down the pitch. It goes without saying that he is one of the best players in the entire Scottish Premiership, currently not playing for either Celtic or the Rangers. But that kind of a move might not be far away in his future.
