After a very difficult season for the club, there is some good news for at least a few Celtic players, as they made the Scotland national team squad for Euro 2020.

One man who has emerged as a star in recent times despite the difficult circumstances is David Turnbull. He should be proud of himself for the impact he has had in the Hoops after completing a move in the previous summer transfer window.

Turnbull didn’t feature in the early part of the season but when he finally got into the team, it was impossible to drop him.

It was seen as a turning point at the time when he and Ismailia Soro broke into the first-team and things started to turn Celtic’s way once again suddenly, at least for a while. And although Soro has still been in and out of the starting XI, Turnbull has become a permanent feature, first under Neil Lennon and then under John Kennedy.

Turnbull has been a rare bright spot for Celtic this season

While there has not been much to celebrate for the Hoops this season, Turnbull has managed to have a very good debut campaign for the club. It’s quite an accolade in any circumstances to be named the club’s Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year but to add the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year Award is quite something and to be honest, fully deserved.

To follow that up, Turnbull has managed to make it into the Scotland national set up with his inclusion in the Euro 2020 squad. As reported by the club’s official site, speaking about his inclusion, Turnbull said:

"“It’s a dream for every young boy growing up through the youth academies in Scotland and it’s always a dream to play for your National team.  I’ve been lucky enough to do it on a few occasions with the youth teams and it’ll be good to do it with the big team now.”"

Whether he gets game time or not, the experience in the national squad at a top level tournament will be tremendous for him and hopefully help him develop even further. That it comes on the back of such a difficult season is great recognition for his work and performances in the Hoops.
