Over the years, Celtic have signed a number of players who have not quite managed to find their best form at Parkhead before going on to achieve big things elsewhere. One such player is Teemu Pukki.

The striker was signed from Schalke in the summer of 2013. And he made a great start to life in the Hoops by scoring on his debut for the club. But ultimately, things did not work out for him at Parkhead. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 9 goals in 38 appearances for the club during his time there and would ultimately leave for Brondby.

He has completely turned things around since then though. After several successful seasons at Brondby, he moved to Norwich City, where he has been absolutely sensational. He has scored 67 goals for The Canaries over his three seasons there till now.

Neil Lennon was the manager of the club when Pukki was signed. And he appears to have a theory on why the move did not work out. While speaking with BBC Radio 5 Live and as reported by HITC, he said:

"“Teemu Pukki, who is scoring goals at Norwich whether be in the Championship or the Premier League, I signed Teemu eight or nine years ago, he scored maybe 10, 12 goals but it was just maybe too soon for him in that environment, and it didn’t work out the way we wanted it to.”"

Pukki struggled during his time at Celtic

When Pukki joined Celtic, he was 23 years of age. It goes without saying that since then, he has developed a lot as a player. It might very well have been too early for him at that point of time.

These days, the club could very well do with a goal scorer like him though. They have struggled to put away their chances in recent times and Odsonne Edouard, who has crossed the 20-goal mark for three straight seasons, also looks set to depart this summer.

Patryk Klimala has also left for New York Red Bulls recently, with the future of Leigh Griffiths up in the air as well. Thus, the Hoops could have a very different looking attack come next season.
