We all know how close Celtic came to signing Ivan Toney in the previous summer transfer window. But ultimately, a move failed to transpire and instead he ended up moving to Brentford, where he has broken the Championship record for most goals scored in a season. It is safe to say that in hindsight, the Hoops should have signed the striker.

They have been linked with another Peterborough United standout over the course of the past few months though, in the form of Siriki Dembele. Many Hoops fans will know him as the brother of Karamoko Dembele.

Dembele has been in brilliant form for Peterborough United, who have secured promotion to the Championship. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 12 goals and provided 12 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions this season.

And while Peterborough United appear to want to keep him at the club, it looks like he won’t sign a new contract, with his current deal running out in the summer of 2022. As reported by This is Futbol, Peterborough United Director of Football, Barry Fry, said:

"“He’s got a year left on his contract and we’ve made him what we consider to be a lucrative offer but there has been a lot of interest in him, and I don’t think he’ll sign a new contract with us.”"

Dembele could be on the move this summer which will be a boost to Celtic

With his contract set to run out in the summer of 2022, it looks like Dembele could be on the move this summer. And if that is the case, that will certainly be a boost to the Hoops’ hopes of signing.

Dembele is a very versatile player capable of playing all across the frontline and could prove to be a solid option for the club. At the end of the day, that is the area where Celtic might have the least options in come next season unless they make new signings.

While a number of clubs are believed to be interested in his signature, at Parkhead he will have the added incentive of getting the chance to play with his brother.
