After the season that they have endured, it goes without saying that Celtic will need to strengthen in a number of areas of their squad if they are to return to the top of Scottish football in the near future.

One of the positions that they need immediate reinforcements in appears to be centre-back. Defence has been a worry for the Hoops throughout the course of the campaign.

Christopher Jullien has spent the majority of the season out with injuries. Shane Duffy was brought in with high hopes but failed to find his feet in Scottish football and is already back at Brighton & Hove Albion. Kristoffer Ajer has been the most consistent performer in the position but is expected to leave in the summer with just a year left on his contract.

As reported by TEAMtalk, a number of clubs, including Celtic, are interested in signing Cardiff City’s Ciaron Brown. Clubs in Germany and Belgium are also believed to be keen on the defender.

Could Celtic make a move for Brown?

Brown is no stranger to the Scottish game. He has spent quite some time on loan at Livingston over the years. It is in the second half of this season though that he has managed to catch the eye after he was called back from loan to Cardiff City in January and has put in several impressive performances since then. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 12 appearances in the Championship this season.

His contract is set to run out this summer but Cardiff City do have the option to extend his deal for another season. But as reported by Wales Online, so impressive have been his performances recently that there has been a suggestion that the Championship side are now looking to tie him down to a longer-term deal and it remains to be seen what will happen in that regard.

When it comes to Celtic, they are looking at a massive overhaul in the summer and will have to sign a number of players over the course of the next several months.
