The upcoming summer is expected to be one of change for Celtic. The club losing the Premiership title race signified the end of an era in many ways. A number of players now look set to leave the club over the next several months and a very different looking team is expected to turn out for the Hoops come next season.

One of the positions that the Hoops need to strengthen in is central midfield. Long-time captain, Scott Brown, is set to leave at the end of this campaign in order to join Aberdeen in a player-coach role.

While Brown had started to slow down in the past couple of years, he still remained a vital part of the first-team. As a result, he is a player that the club will definitely need to replace. And recent rumours suggested that the club were scouting St. Johnstone’s Ali McCann as they were considering a summer transfer swoop.

Now, John Kennedy has appeared to confirm those rumours. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the interim manager said:

"“I think watching him from afar, he’s an impressive young player who has improved with the exposure of first-team football.“One thing for Celtic is, we always have to keep our eye on the best young talents in Scotland, that’s the first point.“In terms of where you would want to scout, if there’s good young players in Scotland, then you want to make sure you know about them.“He’s obviously one we know well of. There’s no decision over squads or anything but he’s certainly a good, talented young player.“It’s good for Scottish football having a player like that coming through.”"

McCann could be a good signing for Celtic

McCann has been brilliant this season for a St. Johnstone side that could end up doing an incredible double. They have already won the Scottish League Cup and are in the final of the Scottish Cup as well, where they will take on Hibernian.

It is safe to say that McCann has been a big part of their success. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 42 appearances this season, scoring and assisting twice each. He has also represented the Northern Ireland national team. And it is not hard to see why the Hoops would be interested in signing him.

He is a brilliant ball winner in midfield who can carry the ball forward up the pitch as well. And at 21 years of age, he is only going to get better from hereon.
