There have been a lot of signings that Celtic should have made in hindsight. Last season’s Ivan Toney transfer saga comes to mind immediately and we all know how successful he has gone on to become in the Championship while playing for Brentford.

Another player that the Hoops appear to have missed the boat on is Jordan Larsson. Henrik Larsson’s exploits at Celtic need no introduction. And his son is starting to look like a brilliant footballer in his own right as well.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 15 goals and provided 5 assists in 29 appearances for Spartak Moscow this season. And it would not be surprising to see him playing for a big team in a top five European league soon.

It was less than a couple of years ago though that Larsson ended up moving to Spartak Moscow for a transfer fee believed to be around €4 million.

Celtic have missed the boat on Larsson

Considering the fact that his father was one of the greatest players in the history of the club, Celtic must have had an eye on the development of the 23-year-old over the years.

In the 2019 Allsvenskan season, he scored 11 goals in 16 league appearances for IFK Norrkoping. You have to feel that that was the moment when the Hoops should have tried to make a move for the youngster happen. Instead, he ended up at Spartak Moscow and is doing brilliantly there.

At this point of time, his transfer value is expected to be over £10 million and the Glasgow giants would have to shatter their transfer record if they wanted to bring him to Parkhead. His current deal with Spartak Moscow runs till the summer of 2023.

Striker is a position that the Hoops need to make a signing in in the upcoming summer transfer window with Odsonne Edouard expected to leave and Patryk Klimala having already joined New York Red Bulls. Thus, it is hard not to feel that someone like Larsson would have been perfect in this situation.
