One of the most legendary Celtic careers will soon be coming to an end with only two more games left to play for Scott Brown for the Hoops before he departs to take on a player-coach role at Aberdeen.

It is safe to say that the long-time captain has been absolutely incredible throughout his 14-year run at the club. During his time at Parkhead, he made more than 600 appearances for the club and won 22 trophies. Incredible achievements to say the least.

To be honest, it is sad to see him leave the club in a season where they have failed to win a single trophy and when there have not been any fans in the stadium. One has to feel that Brown deserved a much better farewell.

Brown has admitted that the club’s managerial situation did have a part to play in his decision to leave. While speaking with Celtic TV and as reported by the Glasgow Times, he said:

"“I have enjoyed it, it’s emotional that it’s coming to the end and I will be sad but I think, for me, it’s the right time for me to go. I’m gonna be 36 in the summer and, whoever whether it’s John or a new manager that comes in, I don’t want to start again at 36, running about the park saying, ‘Gaffer I swear I can still run about and play’.“Being assistant coach at Aberdeen is a great start for me and it’s a good club as well.“I never thought my last game at Celtic Park I’d have no fans but it’s probably the best way to go out. Go out the backdoor, go out quietly. It’s been fantastic playing in front of the fans and it’s just sad I can’t say goodbye in person on that day. It’s just one of these things and hopefully I get a chance to maybe do that later on.”"

Brown is set to leave Celtic to join Aberdeen in a player-coach role at the end of this season

At the end of the day, Brown is 35 years of age and over the past couple of years, it has looked like he has started to slow down a step or two. Eventually, the club did have to bring in a long-term replacement for him.

With a new manager expected to come in, he probably decided that he would start to take his first step towards management himself by taking the player-coach role at Aberdeen.

There is no doubt that Brown is one of the greatest to ever play for the Hoops. And a lot of us probably expected him to retire at the club. But sometimes that’s just life.

Tomorrow, he will play his last game at Parkhead as a Celtic player. Hopefully we can come out with a win on the day.
