There is no doubt that Conor McGregor is one of the most famous athletes on the planet. The Irishman has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past several years. But could he be associated with Celtic in the near future as well?

Not only is McGregor famous for his exploits in the combat sport world but he is also known for things he does outside the cage or the ring. Success in both aspects has made him one of the richest athletes in the world today.

A lot of fans will be aware of the relationship he shares with Kieran Tierney. In the past, he has called Tierney his favourite footballer, as reported by talkSPORT. In fact, he was even pictured training in the former Hoops left-back’s jersey back in 2018 as reported by the Mirror.

One of the Irishman’s recent tweets must have caused some excitement for the club’s supporters. The former double UFC Champion tweeted out that a conversation had come up regarding Celtic, to acquire shares from Dermot Desmond:

Could McGregor acquire shares in Celtic in the future?

It remains to be seen what will happen. But it is very possible that the UFC superstar could become associated with the club if he desired to do so in the future.

Having someone like McGregor could prove to be beneficial for the Hoops. He is a figure who is known and admired all over the world. Thus, it could help the club gain exposure in places where they might not be as popular at this point of time and bring in new fans.

At the moment though, there do not appear to be any rumours or reports suggesting that something of this sort is close to happening.

For now, the focus of the club should be on returning to the top of Scottish football as quickly as possible after having lost the Premiership title race to the Rangers with six games to spare this season.
