It is safe to say that things have not gone Celtic’s way this season. They lost the Premiership title race to the Rangers with six games to spare and failed to lift any other silverware either, which is rare for the club these days.

It is clear that they need to improve in a number of areas. But even then, it is perhaps their defence that has looked the weakest throughout the course of the campaign.

The Hoops have struggled at the back and conceded more goals than they would expected at the start of the season. One of the biggest reasons for that though is the fact that Christopher Jullien has spent the majority of the campaign out of the team, due to injuries.

The Frenchman was initially out of action due to a back issue. He did make his return from that and looked impressive in the few appearances that he made. But then he got injured once again, this time against Dundee United after a collision with the post.

Celtic could be set for Jullien injury boost

It looks like Celtic could be handed a Jullien injury boost ahead of next season. It was initially believed that he would be out of action till September. But as reported by The Scottish Sun, the French defender is now working towards an earlier return as his rehab steps up. He is now running outside in the training pitches and is said to be making good progress.

Getting Jullien back would be a huge boost for the club without a doubt. While he had had his fair share of critics last season, in his absence, it has become clear that he is one of the best defenders at Parkhead at this point of time and is an important member of the current team.

Just him returning is not expected to be enough to turn things around though and the Hoops must bring in new defenders in the upcoming summer transfer window.
