Sometimes footballers can end up in the wrong team and under a manager who doesn’t inspire the best out of them. But one Celtic midfielder could get fresh motivation to perform at his best next season.

Chris Sutton questions in his column in the Daily Record whether there is the possibility that having spent time on loan at Marseille, where he has struggled, Olivier Ntcham could be a part of Celtic’s plans next season?

Well, it probably depends on which version of Ntcham turns up. The one who scored that injury time goal away against Lazio and who at times dominated matches against the Rangers would have a great chance. But if it’s the one who appeared to be wanting a move away from the club and was not performing consistently, then he might not.

And that’s been the problem. Ntcham has bags of quality, skill and potential and at 25 years of age, he should be displaying that consistently. But it’s not happening that way for him.

Could Ntcham have a future at Celtic?

The loan to Marseille looked to be his opportunity for a fresh start. But it has not worked out like he would have imagined. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has played just 207 minutes of football and made 6 appearances for the French giants till now, and has not either scored or assisted.

Marseille have an option to buy at the end of the loan deal but after his performances till now, it looks unlikely that they will activate it. Even then, the Hoops would have hoped that playing in France would have boosted his transfer value and led to a summer move to a different club if Marseille were not ready. But, his loan stay might have possibly had the opposite effect when it comes to the chances of a summer transfer.

Could a new Celtic manager coming in over the summer end up being the turning point for his career? The Hoops have a big decision on their hands though with his contract set to run out in the summer of 2022.
