It is clear that Celtic have a huge task on their hands moving forward. The club have gone through a very disappointing season this time around, in which they missed the chance to complete a historic 10IAR and did not win any other trophy either.

Naturally, they should be aiming to turn things around as quickly as possible and return to the top of Scottish football once again. For that to happen, they will need to make a lot of changes.

The first and arguably the biggest change should involve bringing in a new manager in the near future. And Eddie Howe appears to be the favourite for the Parkhead job at this point of time. Just bringing in a new manager won’t be enough though. A number of players are expected to depart Parkhead in the summer and they need to be replaced. One of them appears to be Odsonne Edouard, who will be entering the final year of his contract at the end of the campaign.

Murdo MacLeod has told the club that they need to get their striker recruitment right this summer even if that means breaking their transfer record. As reported by The Sunday Post, he said:

"“Odsonne Edouard has been very good for Celtic in the past three years but he wasn’t as hot as everyone at Celtic wanted him to be in the past nine months.“I think the team still created plenty of chances but the players just weren’t as lethal as they’d been previously. Points were dropped by missing chances.“In the past seven or eight years Celtic brought in a number of strikers that cost around about the £2m mark.“One or two of them were very good but too many of them didn’t hold up.“That’s why they need to get it right this summer and if that means breaking their transfer record then that’s what they have to do.“But I know that is easier said than done. It’s up to the manager and his scouting staff to source someone out of the top drawer.”"

Celtic need to find a replacement for Edouard

It is more than likely that Edouard will leave Celtic this summer with his contract entering its final year. Otherwise, he will become a free agent at the end of the 2021/2022 season.

The Frenchman has been the talisman for the club at times over the past several years and despite not being in great form this time around, he crossed the 20-goal mark for the third straight season. Thus, it is clear that Edouard is a player that the club will need to replace if or when he departs.

Edouard is believed to have arrived for a transfer fee around £9 million from Paris Saint-Germain in 2018. And if the club are to sign a player of his quality today, it is very possible that they might need to break their own transfer record to do so.
