Celtic’s recent transfers have been hit-and-miss, especially when it comes to loan moves. This season, Shane Duffy, Diego Laxalt, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Jonjoe Kenny have all been on loan at the club. And out of them, only Elyounoussi can be considered as a hit.

But in the current financial climate, the reality of the matter is that the club will continue to have to rely on loan deals in the upcoming season as well. As a result, they must try to identify players who can make an impact at the club.

One player who can definitely do that is Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek. For years, he has been considered as one of the biggest talents in the game and someone with world-class potential. But he is yet to show that, at least on a consistent basis.

He had shown glimpses of that under Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 10 goals and provided 5 assists in just 1955 minutes of football that season before going down with a serious injury. And he is yet to find his form since.

Loftus-Cheek could be a brilliant signing for Celtic

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Loftus-Cheek has scored just 1 goal this season while on loan at Fulham despite playing some regular football and not picking up any long-term injuries along the way.

Clearly, he is still struggling to put that Achilles injury behind him which saw him miss almost a year of action. But a move to Celtic can help him rediscover his form and the Premiership would suit him.

On his day, Loftus-Cheek is a sensational player and truly has the potential to be one of the best in the world. He almost glides on the pitch with the ball at his feet and his incredible size and strength mean that there is not much defenders can do about it when he is on form.

On current form though, it is hard to see him break into the Chelsea team, which has the likes of Mason Mount and Kai Havertz. Thus, another loan spell could be in his future. And if that is the case, Celtic should definitely try to make a move.

Of course, Chelsea would have to cover the majority of his salary, but if they agree to do that and the player is open to a Parkhead move, it is a no-brainer for the Hoops. Yes, it will be a risk but if Loftus-Cheek can rediscover his 2018/19 form, he will be the best player in the Premiership by a mile.
