Celtic need to strengthen in a lot of areas in the upcoming summer transfer window and goalkeeping is one position that they might very well need immediate reinforcements in.

All three goalkeepers in the squad – Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard – have gotten runs in the first-team. But none of them have managed to convince yet that they can be the long-term answer between the sticks.

As a result, it would not be surprising to see the Hoops make a move for another goalkeeper over the course of the next few months with a massive overhaul expected at Parkhead. And could Hibernian’s Ofir Marciano be an option?

Tam McManus says he would be very surprised if the club did not try to get Marciano on a free transfer this summer. He tweeted out:

Is Marciano the answer for Celtic?

Marciano’s contract is set to run out at the end of this season and he will be a free agent. That should make him an even more attractive target for the Hoops, especially in the current financial climate.

Marciano has proven himself to be a very solid goalkeeper over the years. And at 31 years of age, he is certainly not old for a goalkeeper and should have years of top level football ahead of him.

At the end of the day, many would argue that Barkas deserves another run in the first-team. And to be honest, he does. It was the Greek international’s first season in Scottish football and perhaps it was only natural that he would take some time to adjust. But the club cannot head into another season hoping that one of their three goalkeepers will nail down a spot in the first-team.

Thus, signing someone like Marciano makes a lot of sense for the club. He is already proven in the Premiership and on current form, is better than all three of Celtic’s goalkeepers right now.
