Celtic are expected to bring in a new manager over the course of the next few months. But the longer this saga drags on, the more doubts will be raised around the situation.

In the middle of a disappointing campaign, Neil Lennon stepped down from his role in the month of February. Since then, John Kennedy has served as the club’s interim manager.

And there was a feeling that if Kennedy was able to guide the club to a strong finish to the campaign, there was a possibility that he could be handed the role on a permanent basis. That has not happened though. The Hoops were knocked out from the Scottish Cup under him by the Rangers and have continued to struggle in the Premiership as well.

Celtic confirmed in a statement on the club’s official website that they are working hard to complete the appointment of a new manager:

"As a valued Celtic supporter, we wanted to provide you with an update on a few key subjects. The Club is working hard to complete the appointment of the new Celtic Manager and relevant football staff and will be doing all we can to confirm this as soon as possible to our supporters.Rightly there will always be a huge appetite for information from our supporters – unfortunately we are not able to make regular public comment on this matter, but we fully understand and appreciate the need to complete this process as soon as we can.We also acknowledge and understand the frustration of our supporters during this process, but our objective of course is to ensure that we secure the best candidate possible to take the Club forward and this is our focus. We will update all our supporters through our Club communications channels as soon as we are able to."

Celtic will appoint a new manager

This rules out any possibility of Kennedy being handed the role on a permanent basis. Now, it remains to be seen who the new manager is.

Eddie Howe appears to be the favourite for the Parkhead job at this point of time and has been for quite a while now. If the club are able to get a deal over the line for him, it would be seen as a major coup on the part of the Hoops.

Howe is very highly rated for the job that he did at Bournemouth, taking them from the relegation zone of League Two to the Premier League and then keeping them there for five straight seasons. He has been touted by many as a future England national team manager as well.

His sides are known to play attacking football also, which will only make him an even more attractive candidate for the Celtic job.
