Celtic look set for a massive overhaul over the course of the next few months as they aim to return to the top of Scottish football once again. But could that see another of their long-term stars leave?

This season’s Glasgow Derbies have been dominated by two McGregors, but for very different reasons. Allan McGregor has been brilliant for the Rangers, standing out and making some excellent saves. On the opposite side, Callum McGregor has had fixtures that he would most probably like to forget as soon as possible.

This was highlighted in the last derby of the season. The Celtic star was sent off in the first half of the game itself, leaving the Hoops down to 10 men for the majority of the game. While there is an argument to be made that he did not deserve the first yellow card, at the end of the day, the second one was much more clear.

It was just another tale of it all going wrong for the Hoops. It has happened for the entire season and individually, McGregor has not been anywhere near his best. But despite it all, he has remained a regular in the team.

While he is widely believed to be the one to takeover the armband when Scott Brown leaves, could a move down South tempt him to leave as well? John Kennedy does not appear to believe so. As reported by The Herald, the interim manager said said:

"“I don’t think there’s a danger of Callum hankering for the Premier League or becoming disenchanted at Celtic.”"

Could McGregor be set for Celtic exit?

The fact of the matter is that McGregor has been playing some incredible amount of football for several years now and perhaps that is starting to affect his game. In a normal year he’d have a bit of a break in the summer to recover. That won’t the case this time around though. He is expected to be off with the Scotland national team for the Euros and will quite possibly play every minute for them as well.

The Scottish international has built an impressive resumé with Celtic over the years. He has won everything that there is to win on domestic level. And as he approaches his 28th birthday in June, the time might be right for McGregor to depart if he does indeed want to test himself in the Premier League someday.

With a resumé like his, Celtic should get a decent transfer fee for him, which could go a long way in their summer rebuilding process. And he has been linked with Premier League clubs in the past as well, with many believing he is good enough to play at that level.

The likes of Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer could very possibly end up in the Premier League come next season with the duo expected to leave this summer. Could McGregor be another?
