The Eddie Howe to Celtic saga has dragged on for quite some time now. The Hoops are expected to bring in a new manager in the near future and the former Bournemouth manager appears to be the clear favourite right now.

But that has been the case for quite a while now. Yet, an appointment is yet to be made. And it is starting to look like that will remain the case until the end of the current campaign.

Of course, that should not be surprising. With no silverware left to play for, it is understandable that Howe would want to take over at the end of the season and assemble his own squad over the course of the summer.

With multiple Premier League clubs being linked with him, some doubts have been raised about the move in the past. But the recent rumours suggest that it is more of a matter of when than if, with regards to Howe’s Parkhead move. In his column in the Daily Record, Keith Jackson wrote:

"The smart money remains heavily stacked on Eddie Howe’s eventual appointment as Lennon’s permanent replacement. The informed word is, it’s only a matter of when Desmond lands his top target as opposed to if."

Howe’s appointment would be a major boost for Celtic

There is no hiding from the fact that Celtic have endured a very disappointing season this time around. With 10IAR on the line, they have failed to deliver on the pitch and will finish the campaign without a single piece of silverware, which is very rare for the club and has not happened in a long time.

Thus, it is clear that they need to turn things around as quickly as possible and the potential appointment of Howe could serve as the boost that they need to achieve that.

If Howe does arrive, he will come with a big reputation from his time in England, where he took Bournemouth from the relegation zone of League Two to the Premier League and kept them there for five straight seasons. Along the way, his side was known for playing attacking football as well, which makes him an even more attractive option for Celtic.
